Lyrics
[Verse 1]
The proverbs of Solomon:
A wise child brings joy to a father,
But a foolish child grief to a mother.
Ill-gotten treasures profit nothing,
But righteousness delivers from death.
The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry,
But He thwarts the craving of the wicked.
[Verse 2]
A slack hand brings poverty,
But a diligent hand makes rich.
One who gathers in summer is prudent;
One who sleeps at harvest is shameful.
Blessings crown the head of the righteous,
But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
[Chorus]
The way of the righteous shines brighter,
Firm forever in the Lord’s strong hand.
Hope and life flow like a river,
On the Rock of God we stand.
The way of the righteous shines brighter,
Firm forever in the Lord’s strong hand.
[Verse 3]
The memory of the righteous is a blessing,
But the name of the wicked will rot.
The wise in heart accept commands,
But a chattering fool comes to ruin.
One who walks in integrity walks securely,
But one who twists their ways will be found out.
[Verse 4]
A winking eye causes trouble,
But a chattering fool comes to ruin.
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Hatred stirs up strife,
But love covers all offenses.
[Verse 5]
Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning,
But a rod is for the back of the senseless.
The wise store up knowledge,
But the mouth of a fool hastens ruin.
The wealth of the rich is their fortified city,
But poverty is the ruin of the poor.
[Chorus]
The way of the righteous shines brighter,
Firm forever in the Lord’s strong hand.
Hope and life flow like a river,
On the Rock of God we stand.
The way of the righteous shines brighter,
Firm forever in the Lord’s strong hand.
[Verse 6]
The wage of the righteous leads to life,
But the gain of the wicked to sin.
One who heeds instruction is on the path to life,
But one who rejects correction goes astray.
One who hides hatred has lying lips,
And one who spreads slander is a fool.
[Verse 7]
In a multitude of words, sin is not absent,
But one who restrains their lips is prudent.
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver,
But the heart of the wicked is of little worth.
The lips of the righteous feed many,
But fools die for lack of sense.
[Bridge]
Love covers all offenses,
Truth stands the test of time.
The blessing of the Lord makes rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.
[Verse 8]
Doing wrong is like sport to a fool,
But wisdom is pleasure to the discerning.
What the wicked dread will come upon them,
But the desire of the righteous will be granted.
When the storm passes, the wicked are no more,
But the righteous stand firm forever.
[Verse 9]
Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,
So is the sluggard to those who send them.
The fear of the Lord prolongs days,
But the years of the wicked are shortened.
The hope of the righteous brings joy,
But the expectation of the wicked will perish.
[Verse 10]
The way of the Lord is a stronghold for the upright,
But ruin for evildoers.
The righteous will never be removed,
But the wicked will not dwell in the land.
The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom,
But the perverse tongue will be cut off.
The lips of the righteous know what is pleasing,
But the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse.
[Final Chorus]
The way of the righteous shines brighter,
Firm forever in the Lord’s strong hand.
Hope and life flow like a river,
On the Rock of God we stand.
The way of the righteous shines brighter,
Firm forever in the Lord’s strong hand.
