In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God,
The Word was God, He was with God in the beginning.
Through Him all things were made, without Him nothing was made,
In Him was life, the light of all people, shining. The light shines in the darkness, the darkness has not overcome it,
The Word became flesh, made His dwelling among us, full of grace and truth.
Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, the one and only Son,
He came to make Him known, God’s Chosen One. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John,
He came to testify about the light, so all might believe.
He was not the light, but came to witness to the One,
The true light, giving light to everyone, to receive. He was in the world, the world was made through Him,
Yet the world did not recognize Him, did not know His face.
He came to His own, His own did not receive Him,
But to all who believed in His name, He gave His grace. The light shines in the darkness, the darkness has not overcome it,

Children born not of flesh, nor human will, but born of God.
We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son,
From the Father, full of grace and truth, we saw His love. John cried out, This is the One, He who comes after me,
He has surpassed me, for He was before me, ever true.
From His fullness, grace upon grace, the law through Moses came,
But grace and truth through Jesus Christ, His holy name. The Jewish leaders sent to ask, Who are you, John, confess?
I am not the Messiah, not Elijah, nor the Prophet, no.
I am the voice calling in the wilderness, Make straight the way,
For the Lord, the One whose sandal straps I’m not worthy to know. John saw Jesus coming, said, Look, the Lamb of God is here,
Who takes away the sin of the world, this is the One I meant.
I did not know Him, but I came to baptize, reveal Him clear,
The Spirit came down like a dove, on Him was sent. The light shines in the darkness, the darkness has not overcome it,

Jesus turned and asked, What do you want? Rabbi, where do You stay?
Come and see, He said, they spent that day with Him,
Andrew told Simon, We have found the Messiah, come this way. Jesus looked at Simon, said, You are Simon, son of John,
You will be called Cephas, Peter, a rock to stand upon.
He found Philip, said, Follow Me, from Bethsaida they came,
Philip told Nathanael, We found the One of Moses’ fame. Nazareth, can good come from there? Nathanael asked, unsure,
Come and see, said Philip, Jesus saw him drawing near.
Here is a true Israelite, no deceit, He said, I saw you there,
Rabbi, You are the Son of God, the king, Nathanael did declare. Jesus said, You believe because I saw you under the fig tree,
You will see greater things, heaven open, angels ascending free.
On the Son of Man they’ll rise and fall, I tell you the truth,
The light shines in the darkness, Jesus, the one and only Son.
